About the Role
Editorial/Reviewer Board Members play a vital role in ensuring the scientific integrity and quality of published research. Members serve in a dual capacity, contributing both editorial expertise and conducting peer reviews based on their area of specialization.
Key Responsibilities
Editorial Functions
- Contributing to Journal Policies: Contributing to the development and refinement of editorial policies, guidelines, and processes to improve the efficiency and overall quality of the journal.
- Editorial Decision Making: Participating in editorial decision-making processes by providing recommendations on whether to accept, reject, or request revisions to submitted manuscripts based on reviewer feedback and editorial judgment.
- Providing Editorial Guidance: Providing constructive feedback and recommendations to authors to improve the quality, clarity, and scientific rigor of their manuscripts, and ensuring adherence to the journal's submission guidelines.
- Identifying Qualified Reviewers: Recommend qualified reviewers from relevant fields to evaluate submitted manuscripts, ensuring expertise and impartiality in the review process.
- Ensuring Journal Scope Alignment: Evaluate whether submitted manuscripts fall within the journal's scope and align with its mission to advance biological sciences research.
Peer Review Functions
- Conducting thorough reviews: Evaluating assigned manuscripts for quality, originality, significance, adherence to journal guidelines, and provide constructive feedback to improve clarity, methodology, and overall quality.
- Assessing Scientific Merit: Evaluate the relevance and significance of research findings within the broader context of biological sciences.
- Methodology Evaluation: Critically evaluate research methodologies, experimental design, data analysis, and statistical approaches used in submitted manuscripts.
- Meeting Review Deadlines: Completing manuscript reviews and submit feedback to the editorial office within assigned timeframes.
- Collaborating with Editors: Collaborating with the journal's editors and other board members to resolve any discrepancies, disputes, or questions arising during the review process.
Shared Responsibilities
- Upholding Ethical Standards: Adhering to high ethical standards in scholarly publishing, including avoiding conflicts of interest, preventing plagiarism, addressing allegations of research misconduct or publication malpractice, and maintaining confidentiality.
- Declaring Conflicts of Interest: Disclosure of potential conflicts of interest arising from personal or professional relationships with authors or institutions associated with submitted manuscripts.
- Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development activities, such as attending editorial workshops or conferences, to stay informed about field advances, best practices in scholarly publishing, and ethical considerations.
- Promoting the Journal: Actively promote the journal within academic communities and professional networks, encouraging researchers to submit high-quality manuscripts and contributing to the journal's visibility and reputation.
- Maintaining Confidentiality: Ensure strict confidentiality of all manuscripts under review and editorial discussions until publication decisions are finalized.
- Staying Current: Maintaining awareness of emerging trends, methodologies, and developments in biological sciences to offer informed and up-to-date editorial and review insights.
Eligibility Criteria
- Ph.D. or M.D. in a relevant field of biological sciences.
- Minimum 5 years of postdoctoral research experience.
- Strong publication record in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.
- Expertise in a specific area of biological science relevant to the scope of the journal.
- Excellent editorial judgment and ability to identify high quality research.
- Commitment to scientific excellence and ethical research practices.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and provide timely, fair, and constructive reviews.
