Society of Open Science: Advancing Science through Open Access
Founded on the principle of making scientific knowledge freely accessible to all, the Society of Open Science (SOS) stands as a beacon of openness, transparency, and collaboration in the realm of academic publishing. As a leading open-access publisher, SOS is committed to breaking down barriers to knowledge sharing, fostering innovation, and strengthening the global scientific community.
Our Mission
At SOS, our core mission is to promote the progress of science by providing free and unrestricted access to a diverse range of high-quality research articles across various scientific disciplines. We believe that open access to scientific literature is essential to accelerate discovery, facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration, and empower researchers worldwide to address pressing global challenges.
Core Principles
- Open Access: SOS is dedicated to the principles of open access, ensuring that scholarly research is freely available to anyone, anywhere, without paywalls or access barriers. By removing these restrictions, we promote greater inclusivity and equity in the scientific community.
- Quality: SOS maintains rigorous editorial standards for the selection, peer review, and publication of all research. The editorial boards of SOS journals, composed of experts in their respective fields, are dedicated to ensuring that only methodologically sound and impactful research is accepted for publication, preserving the credibility and trustworthiness of our journals.
- Transparency: Transparency is key to building trust in the scientific community. Therefore, SOS journals operate with full transparency across all processes from peer review to publication and follow strict ethical guidelines to ensure the integrity of published research. Authors retain full ownership of their work, and all articles are published under open licenses, allowing for the unrestricted sharing and reuse of research.
- Innovation: The Society of Open Science leverages technological advancements to enhance the scholarly publishing process and expand access to scientific content. Through advanced platforms, digital solutions, and data analytics, we streamline workflows, increase discoverability, and enrich the user experience for both authors and readers.
- Global Accessibility: Acknowledging the critical role of global participation in scientific advancement, SOS is dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the dissemination of research, ensuring that access to scientific knowledge extends beyond geographic and economic boundaries.
Key Features
- Rigorous Peer Review: All manuscripts submitted to SOS journals undergo a rigorous peer review process to ensure scientific integrity, validity, and relevance. To maintain impartiality, the identities of both authors and reviewers are kept confidential. A distinguished panel of experts in relevant fields provides constructive feedback to help authors improve the quality and impact of their research.
- Creative Commons Licensing: SOS adheres to Creative Commons licensing, allowing for the free distribution and reuse of published content. Authors retain copyright while granting users the rights to share, adapt, and build upon their work, fostering a collaborative and open research environment.
- ORCID in Publications: To ensure accurate attribution and support research discoverability, we strongly encourage all authors—including corresponding and co-authors—to include their ORCID iDs during the submission process. ORCID is a non-profit organization that provides researchers with a unique and persistent digital identifier. As a signatory of ORCID’s Open Letter for Publishers, SOS is committed to including all provided ORCID iDs in published articles, thereby enhancing both author attribution and content discoverability. Registering for an ORCID iD is free and simple, and can be completed at: https://orcid.org/register.
Publication Model
Journals published by the Society of Open Science follow an open-access publication model, in which Article Processing Charges (APCs) are covered by authors or their affiliated institutions upon manuscript acceptance. This model ensures unrestricted public access to research while supporting the financial sustainability of our publishing operations.
